For today’s post, we’re looking at this data via the divorce rate of every 1000 women. As researchers argue, this is a better representation of the true divorce rate than raw data. 

Is Divorce Really at an All-Time High?

Using the earlier reference, the current rate of divorce per every 1000 women is at 16.9. In comparison to decades like the 50’s, yes this rate is higher than before. However, the rate of divorce actually topped out during the 1980’s, where it sat at 22.6.

Divorce has been on the decrease since then, and younger generations such as millennials seem to be contributing to this trend.

• About 40 percent of all first marriages end in divorce.
• Around 60 percent and 70 percent of all second and third marriages end in divorce, respectively. 
• The U.S. has the sixth highest rate of divorce in the world. Russia sits at #1.
